Rhopaloblaste augusta is endemic to Nicobar Islands, Camorta (Kamorta), Peninsular Malaysia & Singapore, the Moluccas, New Guinea & the Solomon Islands. In lowland rain forest about 700 m. above the sea level.
A solitary, erect trunk reaching 15-25 meters in height with a diameter of 15-20 cm. The trunk is light gray to pale brown, marked with prominent, closely spaced leaf scars forming distinctive rings. The internodes measure 5-10 cm. The trunk base may show slight swelling but lacks stilt roots. The crownshaft is prominent, 1.5-2 meters long, bright green to yellowish-green, covered with a waxy coating. The crown consists of 8-12 pinnate leaves, each 3-4 meters long. Leaves are elegantly arched with a distinctive twist at the tip. The petiole is short (30-50 cm), grading into the rachis. Pinnae number 40-60 per side, regularly arranged, linear-lanceolate, 60-80 cm long and 5-7 cm wide. The pinnae are dark green above, lighter beneath, with prominent midrib and parallel secondary veins. New leaves emerge bright bronze-red, creating striking visual contrast.
It’s prefer a full sun. High humidity, Well draining soil consistent watering, don’t let the soil waterlogged. Not hardy to coldness.
