Borassodendron machadonis also known as Machadonis Palm is a striking species native to Southeast Asia. This palm has a solitary, tall, and robust trunk that can reach up to 20 meters in height. Its crownshaft is dark green, glossy, and very deeply split, measuring about 1 meter long. The leaves are palmately compound with very deeply split, dark green, glossy leaflets. The petioles have extremely sharp edges, which can cause lacerations if not handled carefully. The inflorescences are single and emerge from the crownshaft, about 1 meter long. The fruits are ovoid and turn black when ripe.
This species is native to the tropical rainforests of southern Thailand and northern peninsular Malaysia. It typically grows in lowland rainforests at altitudes up to 500 meters above sea level.
The Machadonis Palm is highly ornamental due to its tall stature and deeply split, glossy leaves. It is suitable for tropical gardens but requires careful handling because of the sharp petioles.
It’s prefer a partial shade. High humidity, Well draining soil consistent watering, don’t let the soil waterlogged. Not hardly to coldness.
